The year is 2000, I am new in the US of A, New Jersey to be precise. My mother works in Newark at a salon, if my memory serves me well, that is where I heard RNB music. I was immediately captivated by the sounds of Avant singing of “his first love and her silhouette,” Case “standing [there] looking out [his] window,” his rearview mirror playing tricks on him, and Ginuwine singing about how his life has changed.
